From the Director, Andrea Coffer:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Mosaic Middle School website. I have had the privilege of serving in the field of education for the last fifteen years, and I am delighted to share some of our rich history, as well as our current and ongoing efforts to build upon this school’s distinguished legacy and many unique qualities and attributes. Here you will find information about our program of study, the many people who make up our superbly qualified faculty, staff and administration, and the unique accreditation and memberships that link Mosaic to the very finest independent schools throughout our region and country.

Mosaic is a warm and friendly environment where a core commitment to academic excellence blends gracefully with equally strong traditions of pursuing excellence in character, an appreciation for the arts, and the development of well rounded young people who thrive on challenges and opportunities in all areas of life. At the same time Mosaic holds itself to the very highest standards of transparency, accountability, and self-improvement. Our Freewill accreditation demand nothing less and it ensures that Mosaic is always on the march toward ever higher plateaus of educational excellence.

Mosaic Middle School is committed to the proposition that each child deserves the finest possible educational opportunities. As a preparatory institution grounded in the finest traditions of a liberal arts education, Mosaic stresses the continuing importance of the core subjects, with particular emphasis on reading, writing and problem solving. We endorse the theory that the home and the school share responsibility for educating each student. In addition to a rigorous academic program, the school fosters the total growth of the student. As a progressive school dedicated to preparing students for a changing future, Mosaic is equally committed to the intelligent application of technology in every component of the educational process.

The Mosaic academic program is based on the premise that critical thinking, effective communication skills, and a genuine commitment to learning are achieved in an environment that encourages the active participation of students in the educational process. Students will be challenged, but they will also be given the tools and environment necessary to meet those challenges. Students learn skills and attitudes that enable each individual to grow and contribute in a constantly changing community and world. Though Mosaic has no church affiliation, it is not value neutral. Responsibility for one’s own actions, tolerance of opposing viewpoints, a sense of personal integrity, and a concern for others are shared ideas that permeate all facets of school life.
